LUNAR LIGHTS

I. INTRODUCTION

Many newbie OPM bands have been swooning all over. Playing everywhere and any time of the day even for a small amount of talent fees but most of the time for free. Creating their own mark and name in the Philippine Music Industry and trying their luck to showcase their potentials and God-given talents.

Earlier this year, in the month of January one indie band caught my attention during the anniversary of a new shopping center in the heart of Quezon City called the Fisher Mall. I actually went there to finally see Sponge Cola again after a very long time and whom I'm a loyal fan for a decade now. But this band called the "Lunar Lights" totally amused me as they open the said event. I actually brought myself in front of them to see what's really going on in there and I was really in great awe. From that day on I kept my eyes on them, I followed each one of them and band online so that I can keep myself updated on what they'll be doing next. I can say that they are really something else. Something else.

On February, during the UP Fair 2015, I finally saw them again. This time they'll be performing together with some of the biggest bands and artists in the music industry such as Parokya Ni Edgar, Rivermaya, Sponge Cola to name the few. Unlike the first time, now I couldn't help myself but to shout my heart out and feel my lungs burning while they're on-stage performing their songs and covers. During that night, I'm just a few meters away from them. I can see how dedicated they are in what they're doing. Pure passion it is up there. They're just so amazing. No words can explain how I'm feeling during that very moment.

That night was absolutely a night to remember. The night when I felt the attachment and connection that I also felt when I first heard Sponge Cola back in 2004 (die hard fan!) and now I felt it again, it happened again for Lunar Lights. I know deep in my heart that these boys have pure heart, a real and legit love for music, not to impress anyone but to express themselves. It is their outlet to show everyone what they are capable of doing. And it is something I truly admire in them. It was fun seeing them onstage, doing what they love and what they do best.

In an almost a year of fangirling over this crazy bunch of amazing individuals, many things happened. Something that I didn't really expect to be. It was indeed a tons of beautiful memories and really looking forward for more. They're such beautiful souls they have in each of them.

II. HOW THEY STARTED

The five of them are already musically attached individuals, they all love music of any form so no wonder why destiny unite and bring each of them to be together in one band, for one main goal-- to spread music and to show their kind of world. The journey of the band started on February of year 2012 when another Jackass Project's Kevin Martin (vocals) and John Ish Cruz (guitars) collaborated with Sagip Adik Foundation's Eron Dela Cruz (bass) and Emon Roque (drums) and became Sweet Children afterwards. For a much better sound Kevin asked Paul Armand Pascual (guitars) of The Cornerstone to join the band, from then on Kids Invasion was born.

Kevin Martin invited Maverick Meneses (synth) of Travail and Dominard Esguerra (violin) of MHPNHS Strings Ensemble to play in different events in Bulacan and in Manila. After sometime, Maverick and Dominard left the group. The band continued their journey until late 2012 where Eron suggested Ramon "Rocky" Villanueva formerly from Immacus to play keyboards and synth for their band. Suddenly, Kevin left the group for some personal reason from then Rocky took over on his place and lead the band. After Kevin's departure, Maverick came back to complete the band's line-up and introduced themselves with a new band name called The Sky Parade.

After few shows, Emon started a new phase of his life and left the group. Sky Parade was badly needing a drummer that will take over Emon's place to finish some pending projects and since Maverick was the one playing the drums for Travail before the band decided to give him the sticks and took over the throne. Since Mav will the one playing drums, they asked Mark Aquino to play the keyboards and synths for them.

After sometime the band found out that they have a similar band name in other country so that they decided to change it to another and soon called themselves the Lunar Lights and the rest is history.
